Excited to be in the class of 28 other artists for Visions 2024 at the Visions Museum of Textile Art in San Diego. My composition “To Paradise” and others will be displayed through the end of December. Chosen from hundreds of submissions, the quilts in Quilt Visions 2024 were selected by Caryl Breyer Fallert-Gentry, Karl Reichert, and Sandra Sider, a panel of esteemed jurors, for their artistic expression, technical skill, and aesthetic impact. The exhibition features an extraordinary range of styles and perspectives, yet every piece shares a common thread: a dedication to the art quilt as a vehicle for storytelling and personal expression. https://vmota.org/quilt-visions-2024/

I will be Zoom visiting with the SAQA Southern California and Southern Nevada Regional Group on Sunday, Sep 22 at 3pm PST. I will be providing a trunk show and talking specifically about opportunities for entry into quilt shows and exhibitions.

Excited that banners of my quilt “To Paradise” will be displayed outside Visions Museum of Textile Art in San Diego in preparation for the Visions show held Oct 19-Dec 28. If you are in San Diego or want to make a special trip, this will be a wonderful show where 30 talented artists will be included.

Feb 29—2024—It’s a great way to wake up (West Coast Time) to learn this piece “Blank Space” won a Judge’s Choice Award at the Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton, Virginia. Special thanks to Judge Paula Golden. There’s something about these colors of acid yellow and black that judge’s find pleasing. Nice way to start the day. It’s interesting, you never know what color the curtain will be behind the quilt! Last week at Quiltcon my quilt was on a tan background!!

Jan 2024—This picture captures two of my quilts, “To Paradise” on the left and “Thatched in Magenta” on the right! Both are on display now through April n the Men’s Exhibition at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Show in Boulder, CO.

Excited that I will be teaching an online class called “Improv Toolbox” with Crafty Monkies next April and June. In this class the student will learn to make some easy and more complex Improv pieces plus learn how to put an entire Improv quilt together. Crafty Monkies is a great place to get all kinds of quilting and fiber art education. Sign up here: https://www.craftymonkies.com/live-zoom-workshop-carl-brown-improv-toolbox-creating-the-piece

Dec 2023. Ready to mail off, perhaps my favorite quilt, “To Paradise” along with his counterpart, “Thatched in Magenta” and “Ptown Improv” to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum 17th Biennial Men's Exhibit. The show will run from Jan 19-April 20. https://www.rmqm.org/upcoming-exhibition.htm

Dec 2023. I’ve made it into what I believe to be the hardest quilt show in the Universe to be juried into!! This is my piece “Manhattan Solstice” will appear at Quiltcon in Raleigh, NC February 21-24.. If you have ever been to a place like Times Square or Las Vegas at night, you get the full effect of thousands of neon lights. I wanted to create a piece that was neon, bright, with thousands of little pieces with so much tension that the eye had trouble resting in one particular spot.

October 2023. Excited that this quilt “Corner of the Sky” has been selected as a semifinalist in the Abstract category at Road to California. Road will occur Jan 17-24 in Ontario, California. https://online.roadtocalifornia.com/

October 2023. It was so fun to see my quilt “New Beginnings” again today hanging at the Visions Museum of Textile Art in San Diego! I was awarded the Emerging Artist award for their show Interpretations 2023. This is a wonderful show and will continue through Dec 30! If you are in SD check it out!!!!!@visionsmuseumoftextileart
